Well, our 2023 taxes were just filed in January, because the deadline in Texas was put off, because of the hurricane. Our accountant kept letting it slip. Now, we have to think about 2024. Talk about dragging out the pain.
Caste is a most disturbing and most essential book. It reminded me of The Color of Law*, which I read several years ago. These are not hopeful books, but they are honest. We need that now.
I haven't read COLOR OF LAW but I just looked at the ToC and put it on my list. Another good one on the hopeful side is Heather McGhee's THE SUM OF US: What Racism Costs All of Us and How We Can Prosper Together (Random House, 2021) -- McGhee being an economist makes this especially valuable.
