I've been watching the slippery slope since Nixon. It doesn't look promising but just like McCarthy and (I am not a crook) Nixon the worm eventually turns. We know what has to be done. Keep the pressure on. Out with the old in with the new. Age and term limits for Congress and SCOTUS. And ban pockets for any politician.
My standard advice to anyone who says it doesn't look promising is "Start thinking like a Black person, or a woman of any color." Slavery was well entrenched early in the 17th century. It wasn't ended till more than halfway through the 19th -- only to be replaced by a non-slavery slavery called Jim Crow. A fact that sticks in my mind about women's suffrage is that none of those who began the fight were around when the 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920, and of those who saw it ratified, none were around when the struggle began. And needless to say, many U.S. women didn't get to vote till later, often much later, because they were Native, of Japanese or Chinese descent, or Black.
IMO "age and term limits for Congress" is a feeble fix. Overruling Citizens United is much more important, and teaching USians how the economy works is crucial. Term limits for SCOTUS -- yes. Lifetime tenure solves some problems (popularity contests, susceptibility to bribes, etc.) but creates many more. Term limits would also avoid the problem of justices planning their retirement to fall when their favored party is in power. (Six members of the current Court were nominated by Republicans and confirmed by Republcan Senates -- three of them by Trump, thanks to Mitch McConnell.)
Distinctly remember this. The uneducated love him because he is one of their own. They made a stink about him using the term Shylock saying it's antisemitic. But he's never read (or probably even heard of) Shakespeare so he wouldn't understand that. 😂

"Ban pockets"? Please explain.

Cut lobbyists, take money out of politics, overturn Citizens United, end superpacs.
Yes. "virtually every advance in U.S. history is met by a backlash, and the backlash can go on for generations."
It doesn't help to lose perspective.
Don't take just our word for it. “Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice.” (45) https://www.cnn.com/2017/02/02/politics/donald-trump-frederick-douglass
Fortunately my mouth wasn't full when I read that. My keyboard would've been flooded.
